Southwest Trip

I’ve just returned from a productive trip through southern Utah and northern Arizona, with stops in Capitol Reef National Park, Zion National Park, and at Lower Antelope Canyon near Page, Arizona. Antelope Canyon is spectacular, and increasingly crowded. I entered with a photographer’s pass, meaning I had two hours without a guide in the canyon. Toward the end of that time period, the majority of my time was spent allowing tour groups to pass by in the very narrow canyon bottom.

While Antelope Canyon is sometimes called the most photogenic location in the U.S., it can be a challenging place to shoot. The dynamic range is extreme and determining appropriate exposure times can be difficult. Here’s a shot from this spectacular location.
